🔶 Investment opportunities announced across exploration, mining, mineral processing and value addition
Dar es Salaam
The Government has said that the ongoing reforms in Tanzania's mining sector under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan have positioned the country among Africa's most attractive investment destinations, while inviting both local and international investors to explore opportunities in mineral exploration, mining, beneficiation, processing and value addition.
The statement was made today, July 8, 2026, by the Deputy Minister for Minerals, Dr. Steven Kiruswa, while officiating the opening of the Mining Conference held at the Dome Hall during the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), popularly known as Sabasaba.
Dr. Kiruswa said that reforms in mining policies, legislation and regulatory systems have enhanced transparency, accountability and private sector participation, leading to increased investment, job creation and a greater contribution of the mining sector to Tanzania's economic growth.
He noted that Tanzania is richly endowed with a wide range of mineral resources, including gold, diamonds, tanzanite, nickel, graphite, niobium, rare earth elements, as well as industrial and construction minerals.
He further explained that the National Development Vision 2050 places strong emphasis on strengthening geological exploration through modern technologies in order to unlock new investment opportunities.
"The Government is not only inviting investors to engage in mineral extraction, but also to invest in geological exploration, mineral beneficiation technologies, processing, value addition and industries that use minerals as raw materials," Dr. Kiruswa said.
He added that the Government has continued to improve mining laws and regulations to increase Tanzanian participation throughout the mining value chain by promoting the use of goods and services supplied by local companies.
Dr. Kiruswa also noted that the Mining for Brighter Tomorrow (MBT) programme is empowering youth, women and persons with special needs to benefit from opportunities available in the mining sector.
He said the conference is expected to create new business and investment opportunities, while inviting stakeholders to participate in the International Mining Conference scheduled for November 19–21, 2026, at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) in Dar es Salaam, with the aim of further promoting Tanzania as Africa's mining investment hub.
Presenting a paper on mineral licensing and mineral trade, the Director of Inspection and Mineral Trade at the Mining Commission, CPA Venance Kasiki, said the Commission continues to oversee the issuance of licences for mineral exploration, mining, value addition and mineral trading in accordance with the Mining Act to ensure that the country's mineral resources benefit Tanzanians and the nation as a whole.
He explained that licence issuance is based on several criteria, including applicants' qualifications, company registration and the use of electronic systems for receiving and processing applications.
CPA Kasiki added that licence holders are required to implement approved mining plans, protect the environment, employ and develop Tanzanians, and fulfil their corporate social responsibility obligations to communities surrounding mining areas.
He further stated that the Government continues to strengthen the implementation of the Local Content Regulations, which are designed to increase Tanzanian participation in supplying goods and services throughout the mining value chain.
According to him, these opportunities include transportation, construction, technology, security services, catering and financial services.
He emphasized that effective management of mining licences together with strong implementation of Local Content Regulations remains essential for increasing government revenue, attracting investment, promoting mineral value addition industries and ensuring Tanzanians derive greater benefits from the country's mineral resources.
CPA Kasiki also encouraged Tanzanians to seize investment opportunities by establishing industries that manufacture mining equipment and supplies, as well as providing services required in mining operations and mineral value addition.
Earlier, the Geita Regional Administrative Secretary, Mohamed Jumanne, said the mining sector has continued to create employment opportunities for thousands of young people while contributing significantly to economic growth in mining communities.
He added that the Government will continue strengthening cooperation on security and safety matters to ensure mining activities are conducted in compliance with the law, regulations and guidelines, thereby promoting sustainable development of the sector and increasing its contribution to the national economy.
